Viktoriya Burgess

Viktoriya's journey as an artist has been shaped by significant life changes, including moving from the bustling metropolis of Shanghai to a serene island in Hong Kong in the midst of navigating the Covid-19 pandemic and motherhood. These experiences ignited her passion for mixed media painting, which she approaches as a sculptural form.

Originally trained as an engineer, her intrinsic need for meticulousness and control is conveyed through her precise approach to art and choice of mediums.

Her early works explored themes of harmony and balance through symbolic abstract images. Recently, her art has evolved to feature more geometric and structured forms, inspired by the urban environment. This blend reflects her ongoing quest for balance and flow. Each piece is a testament to her journey and the continuous evolution of her artistic voice.

In my artwork, I tried to express how different aspects and needs of our lives, often competing with each other, can be harmoniously combined.

This is an attempt to connect sometimes unconnected things. For example, family and career, individuality and the need to be in a group, enjoying life and coping with difficulties, etc. For each person it will be something different depending on his needs and state of being at a certain point of time.

In other words, the artwork is meant to be an exploration of how we combine sometimes opposing needs and values and celebrates the idea that it is the resulting artifact of exploring these challenges that brings about a harmonious life.
