Gerhard Van Vuuren

Born in 1967, with a natural God-given talent, Gerhard Van Vuuren is an artist living and working in Pretoria. Self-taught, he has been a full-time artist since 2002 and has been orchestrating his own exhibitions since then. “Expressions on abstract “is a term we could use to describe Gerhard van Vuuren’s contemporary portraits. His style is distinctive and the class and character of emotions he employs to describe and document his subjects makes his wonderful work noticeable! The signature is consistent and one we will always associate with him.

Gerhard paints by applying abstraction. He masterfully creates intense personal moments by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer. His paintings respond directly to the surroundings, using everyday experiences as a starting point. By emphasising aesthetics, he approaches a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way. He likes to involve the viewer and believes in the idea of beauty following form in a work.
